Eight on-demand eWorkshops are available to educators in participating states from Sept. 1, 2020 – Aug. 31, 2021. Relevant content for all educators: school leaders, coaches and facilitators, K-12 classroom teachers, ESL teachers and specialists, and professional learning communities. All workshops are available in the eLearning Center via the WIDA Secure Portal.
This eWorkshop explores what educators can do to welcome and engage multilingual newcomers and their families into their classrooms and schools. This eWorkshop is comprised of three modules with videos, readings and interactions to engage the participants.
This eWorkshop helps educators recognize and design mathematics instruction that simultaneously strengthens both mathematical reasoning and language development for multilingual learners. Participants will engage in approximately four hours of self-paced learning.
This eWorkshop is designed to support K–12 content and ESL teachers as they interact with the resources introduced on the Doing and Talking Math and Science website. Through a series of reflections, video exercises, and resources, this eWorkshop helps teams maximize the content on the website and strengthen skills in three areas:
This eWorkshop will introduce a sample walkthrough resource that includes specific attention to practices and principles of exemplary and equitable teaching for multilingual learners. This resource was designed to be applied to current walkthrough practices and protocols within any classroom in which academic language connected to content is used. During the eWorkshop, participants will have an opportunity to learn about ways to use and apply this formative classroom walkthrough resource. Video, activity, subject matter expert commentary, and handouts will be included.
This eWorkshop will introduce school leaders to leadership principles and practices to provide equitable educational opportunities for multilingual learners, based on a distributive leadership model. During the eWorkshop, participants will have an opportunity to explore effective leadership practices that aim to a) create and maintain an inclusive, school-wide learning environment focused on multilingual learners; b) promote effective instructional practices for multilingual learners; c) leverage multiple resources and build capacity for staff to meet the needs of multilingual learners; and d) collaborate with families and the local community to enact school improvement solutions.
This eWorkshop will focus on the use of student and class assets to plan inquiry-based instruction. Through readings, interactions, and videos, participants will identify the benefits and investigate the components of an inquiry approach. Additionally, participants will explore how to consider the content and language needs of multilingual learners in social studies.
This eWorkshop explores ways to use the WIDA ELD Standards Framework, 2020 Edition to support multilingual learners’ achievement and language development. Each module engages participants in components of the WIDA ELD Standards Framework and contains prompts for educators to discuss the module topic in local settings. Ideally, groups of educators commit to engaging in the modules individually and to meeting on a bi/weekly basis to discuss the module topics.
This eWorkshop provides information for educators who work with multilingual learners in their writing development. The series is for educators of Grades 1-12 to use individually or with a Professional Learning Community (PLC). You will be introduced to two educators who use the WIDA Writing Rubric to focus on day-to-day planning. This series is divided into two sections that correspond to the two videos.
