As the school year comes to a close, I want to thank the educators who are part of the global WIDA community. As of this month, we include 362 member schools in 100 different countries as members of the WIDA International School Consortium. Our membership is becoming as diverse as the students served by WIDA schools; we support IB schools around the world, independent schools in the US, public schools in Canada. These schools are at the forefront of international education by developing inclusive programs which build on the assets of all learners.
WIDA member schools continue to transform the conversation about what multilingual students can do and provide leadership for other international schools around the world. Together with this global education community, WIDA is proud to share in the development of a common architecture for teaching multilingual learners. International school leaders have shared with us how WIDA resources support teacher collaboration and meaningful opportunities for student engagement.
The WIDA framework has helped us to more clearly define language support throughout our school, has 'raised the bar' by ensuring a focus on academic language use by all students, and has given us a common language to communicate with faculty and parents about student needs and supports. - (Curriculum Director, Budapest)
As we continue to pursue new research, develop new perspectives, and learn from international educators, we look ahead to our continued collaboration with educators around the world. Have a great summer,
Jon Nordmeyer, International Programs Director
