In the past month, WIDA had the opportunity to visit with thought leaders and international educators around the world. At the AAIE Annual Conference in New York, the opening ceremony was held in the General Assembly of the UN, reminding us all about the importance of global citizenship and international- mindedness. WIDA faculty joined the ACAMIS Early Childhood Conference in China to speak about promoting multilingualism and engaging families. At WIDA, we continue to challenge schools to take an asset-based approach to educating multilingual learners. When we view linguistic diversity as a resource, students, teachers and families in international schools demonstrate intercultural empathy, what AAIE keynote speaker Homa Tavangar identified as an essential 21st century skill.
