Spotlight: Andrea Honigsfeld

Dr. Andrea Honigsfeld is a long-time friend and supporter of WIDA. Andrea has attended and presented at WIDA conferences for the past four years and has served as a pre-conference professional development workshop presenter, a featured speaker, and a workshop presenter on the topic of collaboration and co-teaching for the sake of ELLs/MLLs.

Andrea is associate dean and professor in the Division of Education at Molloy College, Rockville Centre, New York. She directs a doctoral program in Educational Leadership for Diverse Learning Communities. Before entering the field of higher education, she was an EFL teacher in Hungary (Grades 5–8 and adult) and an ESL teacher in New York City (Grades K–3 and adult). She also taught Hungarian at New York University.  She received a Fulbright Award to lecture in Iceland in the fall of 2002.

During the past 15 years, Andrea has been presenting at conferences across the United States, Canada, the UK, Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, the Philippines, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates. She frequently offers staff development, primarily focusing on effective co-teaching strategies and collaborative practices in support of ELLs/MLLs. Andrea has authored, or coauthored, 22 books, and most recently contributed a co-authored chapter with Margo Gottlieb to Breaking Down the Wall (Corwin Press, 2019).

In January 2019, Andrea was the keynote speaker at the ELLSA conference in Bangkok, and in October 2019, she was a featured presenter at the WIDA conference in Providence, Rhode Island. In the upcoming months, she will be presenting at several national conferences in the US (ASCD, TESOL and AERA) and is looking forward to co-presenting a workshop with Jon Nordmeyer in Rome.
