Spotlight: Heather Elliott
Heather Elliott is part of the WIDA assessment team. Heather specializes in content for Grades 6-12, with a particular focus on the assessment of writing. She has worked on many WIDA assessment projects, including annual updates to ACCESS for ELLs, the launch of WIDA Screener, and an in-progress content refresh for WIDA MODEL Online. She also contributes to additional test materials such as guides to score reports, online training courses and annual updates.
Prior to joining WIDA, Heather worked for three years in content development for high-stakes English language assessments at the University of Michigan. She has also taught language learners in a variety of contexts, including K–12 students in Dalian, China, university students in composition classrooms, adult language learners in a GED equivalency program, and a range of students in language school.
Heather holds a BA in English and a TEFL certificate from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and an MFA in Poetry from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
In May, Heather had a chance to connect with international educators at the WIDA MODEL Bias, Sensitivity and Content review (BSC) in Brussels, Belgium. She enjoyed meeting educators in the International School Consortium and learning more about their contexts and concerns. This month, Heather is looking forward to co-presenting a writing workshop as part of the upcoming WIDA International Institute in Madison, WI from July 22-25.
