In August, we introduced Mr. Vega, an English as an additional language (EAL) teacher and one of his multilingual students, Sophia. This month Mr. Vega continues to collaborate with colleagues while celebrating the success from this school year, and setting up the systems for next year.

Mr. Vega finishes up the school year by completing any remaining WIDA MODEL test sessions and updating the Student Portraits for all of his multilingual students. He also supports the 6th and 7th grade teachers as they use the Can Do Name Charts and Student Portraits as information points while making class recommendations and placement decisions for the next school year. Mr. Vega also sets up time to connect with the 7th grade EAL teacher in order to share Sophia’s success and share which strategies have been the most helpful.

Mr. Vega also reaches out to new, incoming teachers for the 6th grade team. He introduces himself and shares resources with his new colleagues so they have a chance to begin preparing for supporting the EAL students at the school.
