WIDA All Year Long: September

In August we introduced Mr. Vega, an English as an Additional Language (EAL) teacher, and one of his multilingual students, Sophia, on a learning journey over the course of a school year. Find out what Mr. Vega does in September. drawing of a man with many papers in front of him.

Mr. Vega starts by connecting with the admissions office and completing the WIDA Screener assessment with new multilingual students. He also creates student portraits using the WIDA Can Do Descriptors and shares the portrait for Sophia, and other students receiving EAL support, with Sophia’s teachers and members of the 6th grade teaching team.  This helps the team better understand language and cultural backgrounds and the unique assets that each student brings to the classroom. Be sure to visit this exciting new resource and follow along as Mr. Vega starts the school year. Drawing of a girl’s portrait with a paperclip over the corner.
