WIDA experts contribute to new book on technology mediated language assessment
WIDA researchers and experts Mark Chapman, Jason Kemp, Alicia Kim, David MacGregor and Fabiana MacMillan contributed to chapter 10, “Testing young multilingual learners remotely: prioritizing equity, fairness, and social justice,” of a new book, “Fundamental Considerations in Technology Mediated Language Assessment.” The book covers how integration of technology into second language assessment has shaped our understanding of key traditional concepts and is available for pre-order.

New research article on universal tools in English language proficiency assessments
WIDA researchers Alicia Kim, Jason Kemp, Mark Chapman and Gary Cook, along with Meltem Yumsek, a graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, contributed to new research that examines the extent to which students with and without disabilities in grades 1-12 use universal tools, such as color overlays and line guides, during online English language proficiency assessments.

New Focus Bulletin: Supporting Multilingual Learners’ Language Growth through Language Development Portfolios
This new Focus Bulletin tells the story of how a fourth-grade team introduced language development portfolios – a classroom-based tool that can help teachers and multilingual learners see and understand students’ language growth – to their teaching practice. Also included are two sample tools that teachers can use and adapt to capture multilingual learners’ language growth using modified Proficiency Level Descriptors from the WIDA ELD Standards Framework, 2020 Edition.
