Illustrated WIDA Guiding Principles of Language Development

This illustrated booklet brings each of the 10 WIDA Guiding Principles to life and can be used by educators to guide their conversations with parents, families and community members about the ideas behind the guiding principles.

The WIDA International School Consortium has updated the international secure portal to include additional member resources and expanded eLearning opportunities.

WIDA Español launches self-paced webinar: WIDA Spanish Language Development Framework

WIDA Español is excited to launch a free self-paced webinar titled Introduction to Pedagogía con Respeto: The Spanish Language Development Framework. This offering is available in both English and Spanish and introduces the WIDA Spanish Language Development (SLD) Standards. The webinar is intended for Spanish/English bilingual K-12 teachers, administrators and support staff with little or no experience using the WIDA SLD Standards.

WIDA Español lanza un seminario web a ritmo propio: El Marco del desarrollo del lenguaje español de WIDA

WIDA Español se complace en presentar un seminario web autónomo gratuito titulado Introducción a Pedagogía con Respeto: El Marco del desarrollo del lenguaje español. Este seminario web introduce los Estándares del desarrollo del lenguaje español (DLE) de WIDA y está disponible tanto en español como en inglés. El seminario web está dirigido a maestros, administradores y personal de apoyo bilingües con poca o sin experiencia en el uso de los Estándares DLE de WIDA, quienes trabajan con estudiantes aprendiendo en español e inglés en los grados kínder al 12º.

Translanguaging Focus Bulletin: Teaching at the Intersection of Language and Social Justice Written by Mariana Castro, this focus bulletin explores translanguaging from the perspective of four educators, spanning kindergarten through high school. Their stories of translanguaging emphasize its use as a tool for social justice. The bulletin provides specific ideas for adopting a translanguaging pedagogy as well as tools to guide educators’ reflections on their practice.

Micro-Offerings from WIDA Professional Learning to help navigate the unique challenges of teaching during the pandemic, WIDA has a new series of micro-offerings. The 30-45 minute courses are open to anyone and are designed for educators who work with multilingual children and youth across a variety of settings.

NAEYC: Supporting Teachers through Change In the September edition of Young Children, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) highlights WIDA staffers Lorena Mancilla and Patricia Blanco and their advice for teachers in supporting children and families during the pandemic.

Guiding Principles of Language Development – Now available in 13 languages!  This summary of recent research on multilingual learners can help guide educators. This document can be used as a resource for educators, parents and families.

This focus bulletin explores how teachers can work together to serve multilingual learners in today’s schools. This comprehensive resource introduces research supporting professional collaboration.
