New Resources and Research

Micro-Offerings from WIDA Professional Learning to help navigate the unique challenges of teaching during the pandemic, WIDA has a new series of micro-offerings. The 30-45 minute courses are open to anyone and are designed for educators who work with multilingual children and youth across a variety of settings.

Guiding Principles of Language Development Now available in 13 languages! This summary of recent research on multilingual learners can help guide educators. This document can be used as a resource for educators, parents and families.

Using WIDA Assessments explains the assessment options for members of the WIDA International School Consortium. See how international schools can use WIDA MODEL and WIDA Screener as part of their systematic approach to language integration and content learning.

Changes in the Practice of Content-Area Teachers During Professional Learning In a new article on professional learning published in TESOL Quarterly, WIDA Researcher Daniella Molle explores how content-area teachers make sense of and use instructional practices that contribute to multilingual students' language development. Findings from Molle's study revealed that as content-area teachers engaged with novel instructional practices, they were privileging access to disciplinary content over opportunities for language development. Included in the article are recommendations for how designers and facilitators of professional learning can mitigate the marginalization of language development considerations in similar professional learning contexts.
