Preparing for MODEL

Resources designed to help you and your students prepare for MODEL testing

WIDA provides several resources to help educators prepare to administer WIDA MODEL.

It is important for your students to understand, in age-appropriate ways, why they are taking this test. They also benefit from participating in conversations about their own language development, education, and their own ideas about how they can perform their best on the test.

Some key information to share with colleagues, students and families:

  • The test provides information about students’ English language abilities in school. Educators use this information to make decisions about students’ education and support their academic success.
  • MODEL measures what students know and can do in English in the domains of Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing.
  • Students do not need to study for the test, but rather, focus on demonstrating their language abilities.

To understand the preparation process and what you'll need to get started, view the Quick Start Guide at the bottom of this page.

WIDA MODEL Online technology

The WIDA MODEL Online testing system is made up of the following online platforms:

The WIDA MODEL Resource Center

The WIDA MODEL Resource Center is a public website that provides essential tools to help educators prepare for MODEL Online administration. It includes resources for technology, training, implementation, practice items and more. In addition, quick links are available to download TestNav and log in to ADAM via LaunchPad.

ADAM (Assessment Delivery and Management)

ADAM is the test management platform for WIDA MODEL Online. Test administrators use ADAM to download test administration materials, administer the test and access student test data and reports. This does not require any installation — just an up-to-date web browser.

LaunchPad

LaunchPad is the login and rostering platform used to access ADAM and add administrator users and students. All MODEL Online users log in to ADAM via LaunchPad. Users with the relevant role permissions roster both administrative users and students to ADAM via LaunchPad. This does not require any installation — just an up-to-date web browser.

TestNav

TestNav is the secure student test delivery browser used to deliver all four MODEL Online language domain tests to students. All devices designated for testing need to have the TestNav application downloaded and installed.
