Supporting Multilingual Learners With Disabilities in Language and Communication

This WIDA Self-Paced Workshop explores asset-based approaches and instructional practices that support the development of language and communication skills in K–12 multilingual learners with disabilities. While the skills, strengths, and characteristics of the students in this group vary greatly, they all benefit when educators plan for their language-related needs in tandem with their disability-related needs. Participants will gain access to strategies, resources, and tools designed to elevate the strengths and meet the needs of multilingual learners who use diverse communication methods.

Audience

This self-paced workshop is designed for K–12 educators and their collaborative partners who teach and support multilingual learners with disabilities.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

• Use asset-based approaches to honor learner variability within communication and language development.

• Identify ways to plan for language development in settings that include multilingual learners who use diverse communication methods.

• Apply instructional tools and resources designed to support communication and language development in multilingual learners with disabilities.
