Assessing K-12 Multilingual Learners' Development of the Language for Reading

This Focus Bulletin describes how WIDA approaches the assessment of the language for reading for multilingual learners. We describe how the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework, 2020 Edition, informs the design of WIDA reading tests, with a focus on the WIDA ACCESS test. Through multiple examples of reading test items, we demonstrate how the language assessed on the ACCESS reading test varies by grade-level cluster and target proficiency level.
