Language Standards Frameworks and Language Assessment

This article provides an illustrative example of how the thinking of a consortium of United States states, territories and federal agencies has evolved in its conceptualization of language standards frameworks, working in tandem with the development of language assessment to ensure robust alignment between the two. It attempts to lay out the interrelated developments in WIDA’s English language development standards and its large-scale assessment over the course of close to 20 years.
