WIDA MODEL Is on the Move

WIDA MODEL is moving to a new platform

Starting in June of 2025, the MODEL Online testing platform will be hosted by Pearson. Use this page throughout this year to learn about the upcoming change, how to prepare, and the transition timeline.

Key Details

  • The current platform with MetriTech will remain active through June 2025.
  • Beginning in June 2025, the MODEL Online testing platform will be hosted by Pearson.
  • MODEL Online will have a new test management platform and test delivery application; the MODEL Online test content will not change as a part of the transition.
  • There will be no changes to the ordering process; WIDA MODEL will continue to be available for purchase through the WIDA Store throughout and after the transition.

What To Expect

Test Content

The MODEL test content will remain the same. No new test content is being added as part of this transition, and all four domains will still be required to generate score reports.

Discontinuation of MODEL Screener Test Forms

WIDA will discontinue MODEL Screener test forms for MODEL Online in June 2025. This means that MODEL Screener will not be available on the Pearson MODEL platform. Below are recommendations to help determine another screener assessment for your context:

WIDA Consortium member states: WIDA recommends using WIDA Screener to screen students as this assessment was developed specifically for this purpose. WIDA Screener is available in two formats: online (available for free for WIDA Consortium member states) and paper (available for purchase in the WIDA Store).

International and U.S. independent schools: WIDA recommends using WIDA Screener Paper (available for purchase in the WIDA Store) to screen students as this assessment was developed specifically for this purpose. However, if you require an online screening option, the full-length version of MODEL Online can be used as an alternative to MODEL Screener. The full-length version includes additional Listening and Reading items, but this does not significantly increase the administration time.

Test Expiration Updates and Policies

Starting June 1, 2025, test license expiration dates will change from two years to one year for all tests purchased on or after this date. Please note the following details:

New purchases: Licenses purchased on or after June 1, 2025, will expire one year from the date of purchase.

Renewals and additional purchases: Starting June 1, 2025, adding or purchasing new licenses will not extend the expiration dates of previously purchased licenses.

Existing licenses: Test licenses will be added to the Pearson platform on June 1 based upon the quantity available in the MetriTech platform on that date and those licenses will retain their current expiration dates.

New Platforms: An Overview

TestNav

TestNav is Pearson’s online test platform that will be used to deliver all four MODEL Online language domains to students. TestNav ensures a secure testing environment and prevents students from navigating away from the test session once administration has begun. It includes embedded universal tools and accessibility features. All testing devices will need to have TestNav downloaded and installed. TestNav is compatible with Chrome OS, iPadOS, macOS and Windows. View the current system requirements for TestNav.

New Feature: Additional Accessibility Tools

TestNav provides a more accessible student experience, including keyboard navigation and automatic test content reflow, which allows students to view content clearly on any device.

ADAM

ADAM (Assessment Delivery and Management) is Pearson’s platform for managing assessments. Educators will use ADAM to download MODEL Online test administration materials, administer the test, view score reports and more. ADAM is compatible with current web browsers.

New Feature: Simplified Test Flow

Domain tests can be administered in any order. Speaking does not need to be administered before Listening, and Writing does not need to be administered before Reading. A Writing Quick Score is no longer required, which means only one Writing score needs to be entered per student at the end of testing.

New Feature: Flexible Proctoring

In ADAM, flexible test session setup means students can easily switch proctor groups and be added late to test sessions that have already been started. You will be able to create proctor groups ahead of time for specific groups of students or create a single proctor group for all students and administer the test to students with total flexibility.

New Feature: Enhanced Reporting

For schools and districts that administer MODEL twice a year, Individual Student Reports (ISRs) will include student scores from both administrations, making it easier to visualize beginning-of-year to end-of-year growth. Dynamic reporting dashboards show aggregate score data at the school and district level. In addition, dynamic activity reports track real-time testing activity.

LaunchPad

LaunchPad is Pearson’s rostering platform. MODEL Online users will log in and roster both administrative users and students to ADAM via LaunchPad.

New Feature:
Annual Rostering

LaunchPad and ADAM support simple rostering and year-over-year maintenance of student data. Each school year, schools and districts will upload roster data for the students that need to be tested via LaunchPad. If the student’s unique source identifier stays the same year over year, the student’s longitudinal and test history data will remain intact.

WIDA MODEL Resource Center

The WIDA MODEL Resource Center is a public website that provides essential tools necessary to prepare for and administer MODEL Online. It includes resources on technology, training, implementation tools, practice tests and more. In addition, quick links to download TestNav and log in to ADAM via LaunchPad are available.

Checklist: WIDA MODEL Online Transition to Pearson

Getting Started

As WIDA MODEL Online transitions to a new platform, each school/district must complete specific tasks to ensure a smooth transition. The timing of some of these tasks depends on your next testing window. However, all accounts must close out their MetriTech Test Administrator Interface (TAI) account and set up their new account in the Pearson system. Use the checklist below to guide you through the process.

Finalize Your Next Testing Window

If you plan to test in spring 2025, you have the following options:

Option 1: Use the MetriTech platform for spring testing and switch to testing in the Pearson system in the fall. Keep in mind that June 30, 2025, is the last day to access your MetriTech MODEL account. Note: This is the recommended option for Spring testing.

Option 2: Use the Pearson platform for spring testing. Testing using the Pearson platform can begin June 2, 2025.

If you do not have plans for a spring administration, you will start testing with the Pearson system in the fall. However, you must complete steps to close out your MetriTech MODEL Online account by June 30, 2025, and activate your Pearson MODEL Online account prior to fall testing (see below).

Close Out Your MetriTech MODEL Online TAI Account

The last day to access the MetriTech TAI is June 30, 2025. Complete the following tasks to prepare:

  • Early April: Make sure the account administrator (e.g. account owner) listed in your MetriTech MODEL account is correct and up to date. NOTE: This is essential because only the account administrator will receive the initial login credentials for the Pearson platform in May. Other users will be added to the Pearson platform by the account administrator. If you are unsure who the account administrator is for your school or district, contact MetriTech at ModelSupport@metritech.com.

  • By June 30, 2025: Complete any spring testing occurring in the MetriTech TAI.

  • By June 30, 2025: Download all desired student score reports and data from MetriTech TAI, including Individual Student Reports, Location Roster Reports and District Roster Reports.
Pro tip: To capture all student testing data within the MetriTech MODEL platform, we recommend downloading a district roster report data file with a comprehensive date range (e.g., from the start of your school or district’s MODEL account creation, to the last day of testing). Otherwise, you could adjust the data range and run a district report for each year of implementation. Once this data has been downloaded, it can be securely stored as guided by your local policy. If you encounter any issues with downloading your various score reports from the MetriTech TAI, please reach out to MetriTech directly.

  • If using MODEL Screener, make plans to implement another screener assessment.

Onboarding to Your Pearson Account

  • Learn more about TestNav system requirements. TestNav will need to be installed on all devices used for testing. If needed, work with your technology department to download and install TestNav. Verify TestNav is working properly before testing begins.

  • Visit the WIDA MODEL Resource Center for training on navigating the Pearson test management platform (ADAM), links to test directions and practice tests, and more.

  • Account administrators should log in to their Pearson MODEL account (login credentials were sent by email in May). Begin to set up your account by adding users, setting up school organizations (locations), and rostering students. If you are unsure who the account administrator is for your school or district, contact Pearson Customer Support

  • Learn more about how to use the Pearson platforms:
  • As determined by your testing window plans, begin testing on the Pearson platform for the 2025-2026 school year. Please note
    • Test licenses were added to the Pearson platform based upon the quantity available in the MetriTech platform in late May.
    • Licenses will appear in both MetriTech and Pearson platforms during the month of June.
    • A license true-up in the Pearson platform will occur in early July and any licenses used in the MetriTech platform in June will be deducted from license counts in ADAM.
