Szu-Yueh Justine Chien is an e-learning instructional designer at WIDA. She works with WIDA Professional Learning staff to design and develop online learning and training modules for WIDA clients. When it comes to instructional design, Justine believes that designers are actually crafting learning experiences for individuals. Therefore, she is interested in creating engaging and authentic learning activities that provide opportunities for learners to apply the knowledge and skills to solve problems in their daily life.
Prior to joining WIDA, Justine provided faculty professional development support as the teaching and learning services coordinator at UW-Madison. She has worked as an instructional designer at UW Extended Campus to design and develop online courses and as an assistant professor in the School of Education at UW-Platteville.
Justine is originally from Taiwan where she earned her bachelor degree in English Language and Literature at National ChengChi University. After teaching in high school for a couple of years, she decided to pursue advanced degrees in educational technology. She earned her master's degree in Educational Communications and Technology at UW-Madison and her doctoral degree in Learning, Design, and Technology at the University of Georgia. Justine's research interest is to explore the ideas of multimodality and dialogical self in literacy education to help individuals construct identities in this culturally interconnected world.
In her spare time, you will find Justine in some badger games. If she is not at the games, she is cuddling with her cats or watching movies. And please visit her favorite place in Wisconsin--the Mustard Museum in Middleton.
