Registration is open for the WIDA eConference
Registration is now open for the 2021 WIDA eConference. This one-day virtual event will be held on Thursday, October 14 and is open to all who would like to attend including members of the WIDA Consortium, international educators, and higher education faculty and staff.
Registration includes access to live sessions, presentation handouts and materials, interactive breakout group opportunities, and access to all recorded content through the end of 2021. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration costs $150, but the price will increase to $180 on September 1.
The keynote speaker for the WIDA eConference will be Viet Thanh Nguyen. Nguyen’s debut novel, The Sympathizer, won the Pulitzer Prize, was a Dayton Literary Peace Prize winner, and made the finalist list for the PEN/Faulkner award. Nguyen is a professor at the University of Southern California.
WIDA eConference sessions will align with the conference theme Reimagining Opportunity and Access for Multilingual Learners and will be designed for educators of K-12 multilingual learners. Session topics will include the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework, 2020 Edition, effective instructional practices, professional learning and language assessment. Attendees can choose from five sessions during each concurrent session block.
Conference presenters will include WIDA staff, educators and experts from the field. Session highlights include Leila Kubesch, the 2020 Ohio teacher of the year, who will be presenting a spotlight session on Parent Outreach & Engagement with Purpose and Power During COVID. Jonathan Rosa, an assistant professor at Stanford, will also be presenting Redefining Communicative “Problems” and Reimagining Decolonial Possibilities.
