The Connection: Pennsylvania's Learning Standards for Early Childhood

Connection Series

The WIDA Early English Language Development (E-ELD) Standards were specifically developed to help support the unique language needs of DLLs, ages 2.5–5.5 years, who are in the process of learning more than one language prior to Kindergarten entry. Because language learning occurs across all areas of standards-based curricula, it is critical that ECE programs use language standards in conjunction with ELS when supporting, instructing, and assessing DLLs.

Connection Series

While the E-ELD Standards are fully aligned with the WIDA K-12 English Language Development Standards and correspond to ELS, these standards may be applied in any program that supports young dual language learners.
