This WIDA webinar offered a dynamic exploration of family engagement, focusing on building authentic partnerships through cultural humility in the context of multilingualism. Participants explored language-focused family engagement as a powerful approach to honoring and integrating families’ perspectives. The WIDA “Tell Us About Your Child” survey was highlighted as a promising tool that centers parental and caregiver voice in supporting students with complex communication needs. The session featured researcher Delis Cuellar, student researcher Lauren Avery Collins, and Director of Assessment Representation Research Laurene Christensen.

This fourth edition of WIDA's COVID-19 report describes the outcomes of English learners (ELs) across the WIDA Consortium based on their scores in WIDA ACCESS Online from 2018 through 2025. English learners' average proficiency remains below pre-pandemic levels; however, in the most recent academic year (2024–2025), overall English language proficiency and growth increased for ELs across the WIDA Consortium.

This Focus Bulletin describes how WIDA approaches the work of elevating youth voice to expand educational agency for multilingual learners. Based on research and interviews with youth, we examine a framework for understanding youth voice through the lenses of listening, collaboration, and leadership. We also outline three dimensions of youth voice and provide accompanying reflection questions to help educators think holistically about the topic.

This webinar explored practical ways of collaborating across roles to deliver language-rich lessons rooted in the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework, 2020 Edition. Using a case study approach, it featured an ESL educator reflecting on her journey applying practices and strategies to establish consistent communication, build a sense of shared responsibility, and ensure her multilingual learners received grade-level instruction that supported both content and language learning.

It shows how the framework is currently being used, which aspects educators use most, and what challenges they face when trying to use it. The report also shares how a variety of education stakeholders view the value of the framework and gives recommendations for how to support and increase its use in classrooms.

This Focus Bulletin describes how WIDA approaches the design and development of language proficiency tests for kindergarten multilingual learners. We describe some of the design principles that underlie WIDA kindergarten tests, including the use of task models, scaffolds, and stopping rules. The aim of these design principles is to provide young multilingual learners the opportunity to show what they can do with their rapidly developing language skills in an assessment context.

In this WIDA Webinar recording, learn how WIDA MODEL test scores can support instructional planning. WIDA MODEL is a flexible, on-demand interim language proficiency assessment that can be administered any time during the school year, depending on the needs of the student, school or district. This report, Advancing Implementation: Phase 2: Research on English Language Development Standards, Part 1: Focus Group and Interview Insights on Practice and Innovation, examines how K-12 educators across the United States are implementing the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework. The first part of this study draws on focus groups and interviews with teachers, specialists and leaders from 21 states. The study highlights practical strategies for standards implementation, emphasizing teacher agency, collaboration and the everyday opportunities and barriers that educators encounter.
